The crisis brought new words!

crisisThe crisis brought new words. If you talk to Spanish people in the streets, if you read Spanish newspapers or if you watch Spanish T.V. programmes you will find some new words.

Some weeks ago, a very interesting article was published about the new words Spaniards are using because of the crisis.

We want to share some of this new vocabulary with our students so they can understand our reality much better.

Mileurista is a person who earns 1000 euros or less per month.

Escrache is a word that comes from Argentina and Uruguay and describes a kind of protest.

Indignados refers to a protest movement also called 15M movement. It began the 15th of May 2011.

Marea is the name of a group of people protesting for the same reason. Marea verde are the people who protest against the cuts in education. Marea blanca are the people who protest against the cuts in healthcare system. Marea roja are the people who protest against the cuts in culture and Marea naranja the ones who protest against the cuts in social services.

Yo se indignados los vi en Puerta del Sol cuando estaba en Madrid. Me gusta como hacen las cosas. En Londres también tenemos parecido un grupo. Yo creo que son importantes por la crisis. Ayudan para tener esperanza. Gracias para el post! Mi español es malo pero no tengo tiempo de aprender más de ello. Mucho trabajo… Adiós from London city!!
